Returns & Refunds

Our return, replacement, and refund policy — in plain language.

Every Moonshine Story book is personalized and produced on demand. Because the book is unique to the child it's made for, we cannot accept change-of-mind returns. We stand behind the quality of what we deliver though, so if something is wrong on our end we'll replace it or refund you.

Digital personalized books

Digital books are delivered as a downloadable PDF within minutes of purchase. Once the PDF is generated and made available, the purchase is final — digital goods cannot be returned. There are two exceptions where we will fully refund you or regenerate the book at no cost:

  • Delivery failure — if the PDF fails to generate or cannot be downloaded within 24 hours of purchase, we will either regenerate the book or refund you in full.
  • Our personalization error — if the book contains the wrong name, character, or personalization details due to a bug on our side (not due to information you entered), we will regenerate the book or refund you in full.

Typos, wrong age selections, or other personalization errors caused by information you entered during checkout are not covered, but we're happy to help — email us and we can regenerate the book at a 50% discount.

Printed books

Printed books are custom-manufactured per order and shipped directly from our print partner. Because each book is unique, printed books are final sale. We replace or refund defective and damaged items under the terms below.

What qualifies for a free replacement or full refund

You have 14 days from delivery to report any of the following. We cover return shipping where required, and you do not need to physically ship the defective book back — photo proof is sufficient:

  • Damaged in transit — the book arrived torn, wet, crushed, or with damaged packaging visible on delivery.
  • Printing defect — misprints, missing or duplicated pages, binding failures, ink smudges, or colour problems that weren't in the preview you approved.
  • Our personalization error — the printed book shows different text, names, or images than what you approved in the preview.

Pre-print cancellation

You can cancel a printed book order for a full refund any time before your book enters production. In practice this is usually a 1-hour window after checkout, but it can be longer during off-peak times. Email us at support@moonshinestory.com as quickly as possible with your order number. Once a book has entered printing we can no longer cancel the order.

Personalization errors caused by customer input

If the book was printed accurately based on the details you submitted and approved in the preview (for example, a typo in the child's name, a wrong age, or the wrong character selection) we can reprint the corrected book at 50% of the original price. You keep the first copy.

What's not covered

We can't accept returns or issue refunds in the following cases. This matches the industry standard for personalized children's books:

  • Change of mind after the book is printed
  • The recipient didn't enjoy the story or illustrations
  • Gifting the book to someone who didn't want it
  • Damage that happened after delivery (dropped, spilled on, chewed, written in, etc.)

How to make a claim

Email support@moonshinestory.com within 14 days of delivery (for printed books) or within 24 hours of purchase (for digital delivery failures) with:

  • Your order number
  • A clear description of the problem
  • For printed books: photos of the defect or damage, including a photo of the shipping packaging if the damage occurred in transit
  • For digital books: a screenshot of the download error

We read every email and reply within 2 business days. Approved replacements typically ship within 3 business days; approved refunds are processed back to your original payment method within 5–10 business days depending on your bank.
